"I picked up a point and shoot camera when I was 5 years old and have been inspired to capture my surroundings ever since."
-Julie Smith
While studying Electronic Media at the University of Cincinnati, Julie took a few black and white photography classes and fell in love with the entire process of capturing, developing and printing images. During that time she began making cameras and experimenting with pinhole photos. For her first solo photography exhibit, “Denizens of the Desert”, at Metro Gallery in Pasadena, Ca., Julie combined basic analogue elements of pinhole photography with newer techniques of the digital darkroom.
Recently she was the winner of the "Honorable Mention Award" at the Conception Art Show Los Angeles.
Since 1990, Julie has used her aesthetic sensibilities to help craft sets for the motion picture industry. Working as a Set Decorator for movies, television shows and commercials has given her a unique passion and appreciation for all varieties of art, craftsmanship and artistic collaboration. During breaks between film projects she photographs her surroundings.
Smith's photography portfolio extends from international views, portraits, quirky vignettes to abandoned theme parks.
